Storms

It's storming outside and, sometimes, those storms outside impact our inside. There isn't anything we can do to avoid most storms. True, there are some storms that we create ourselves simply by making foolish choices, but many of the storms in life are the result of living in a fallen world. Although we have been redeemed and created in the likeness of Christ, we still live with the consequences of what happened in the Garden.

There is, however, something that we have, a resource, an anchor, a lighthouse (or whatever metaphor you'd like to use) as Christians that will sustain us through even the fiersest storms of life. We have Jesus and His life within us--a force to be reckoned with, a force far greater than any storm that we might face. When the seas are crashing out-of-control, wild and over-bearing, and when the rains come down like sheets, and it feels like we're going to capsize, Jesus is our refuge and strength.

When the disciples were with Jesus on the boat in the middle of the Galilee and it suddenly began to storm, do you think that Jesus forgot to check the weather forecast for that day? Of course He knew what was coming. Sailing right into a storm, He would teach His followers what it meant to put their confidence and trust in God by taking their focus off of the circumstances.

What is YOUR storm? The only way experience Jesus as your refuge and strength in the midst of your storm is to get out of the boat. When you do, you must keep your focus on Him, believe Him, put your confidence in Him, and then you will be able to walk on water!
